Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy

As the chair for forest politics we concentrate on the analysis of political processes in the context of land use, both in our research and in teaching. Therefore we look at the interface between societies and their natural environment, we occupy the join between natural sciences and social sciences. We understand the language and thinking of both science directions. This approach provides a basis for the understanding of interactions between humans and natural environment on a global to a local scale, in order to apply perceptions, theories, models and methods from natural and social sciences in our research field. With the focus on the politics of land use we concentrate on the exposure of a person with their natural environment. The perceptions, decisions and the actions of a person both as an individual, and as a group or institution shape our research interest. The basis for our scientific finding is the empirical access to the reality of political and social processes about land use and it’s feedback to society. As our scientific core competence we cultivate our capacity in methods of empirical social research and link to it in theory-driven applications and development of social-empirical instruments. Our empirical analysis on politics and land use are the foundation for solution oriented consulting in policy and are the basis for problem orientated theory development.
