Institute for Plant Protection in Horticulture and Forests (JKI-GF)

Sovereign tasks for the institute, assigned by the German plant protection law, are the evaluation of plant protection products concerning efficacy, phytotoxicity and benefit for the responsible crops (including orchards, vineyards and hop as well as all rodenticides and repellents). The evaluation of the plant protection products is done as a consulting report. Other key activities are contributions in closing gaps in the field of pest control and evaluation of plant protection products concerning the ability for amateur gardening. Further tasks are the scientific evaluation of the efficacy of biocides (for substances with a relevance to plant protection) and work concerning guidelines of the European Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO). In collaboration with Federal Plant Cultivar Office, sets of varieties of vegetables and ornamentals are tested for resistance against pests and diseases. For this testing, methods and handling of pathotypes are developed. The scientific work covers all areas of phytomedicine. A key work in the area of intersection between ornamental shrubs and forest plants is the research on diseases and pests in the public green. The work of the vertebrate team covers the field of vertebrate research in all cropping systems, cultivation methods as well as in farm buildings and storage.
