Collaborative project: Development of an early, reliable and sensitive rapid assay for pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAG) for early pregnancy detection in cattle
Description:
An easy to use and reliable assay for an early diagnosis of pregnancy is of prime importance in dairy cattle, but still not available. The measurement of PAG in serum from inseminated cattle can be used for an early pregnancy diagnosis from 30 days after insemination onward. The determination of the PAG concentration has to been done in special laboratories and needs shipment of the samples. The development of a rapid dipstick assay, like for a human pregnancy, based on the usage of high sensitive peptide antibodies should allow dairy farmers to identify non-pregnant animals without any delay and can be an important and economical tool for modern livestock farming.
