Pest control in organic farming
Description:
The objective of the project is to develop environmentally-friendly, system-conforming methods to regulate pest infestation in organic winter rape crops by creating border strips or mixing crops with trap crops (bird rape) combined with localized treatments of direct control. Such a combination might be a useful way to achieve the diversion or reduction of pest density, particularly at critical infestation sites. In the project, four partners (JKI, vTI, University Gottingen and the University of Kassel) combine results from different cultivation regions, test them under practical conditions and farmers will be informed at field days by the KÖN (Kompetenzzentrum Ökolandbau Niedersachsen). Each of the four partners had a different goal or emphasis in participating in the project: Attractiveness and suitability of various trap crop varieties (bird rape) and mixtures Infestation-reducing impact of trap crop strips and rape/bird rape seeds mixtures Effect of combing direct regulation with trap crop strips Accompanying soil and plant analyses to document the nutritional supply and compensatory ability vs. pest infestation.
