Regeneration, Maintenance, and Sustainable Use of Pristine Forests in Ethiopia

Description:

This proposal is part of an ecosystem study that aims at a scientific basis for a sustainable management of the Munessa-Shashemene forest as a model for other semi-deciduous forests in Ethiopia. With the enlargement of the project in the second phase, coordinative tasks increased drastically with respect to scientific coordination, management of the field work, and collaboration with Ethiopian partners and authorities. This requires the employment of a project-coordinating scientist. His tasks will be (1) to coordinate the field work, (2) to administer the field station and the project car, (3) to manage the permanent plots, (4) to establish and coordinate the experiments of the silviculture project, (5) to organise training activities for Ethiopian students and professionals, (6) to deal with Ethiopian authorities, (7) to interact with the Addis Ababa University and the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization, (8) to strengthen networking within the project package, and (8) to take the lead in the preparation of a manual for the sustainable management of the Munessa-Shashemene Forest.
