Development of coloured carrots for organic production, subproject 3

Description:

In the present study, existing gene bank material is the carrot breeding and further developed an on-farm use is supplied. On the basis of breeding material, in the context of a test conducted in 2011 DFG project already on morphological characteristics and quality-determining services and health-promoting volatile and nonvolatile constituents (carotenoids, anthocyanins, polyacetylenes, or mono-and sesquiterpenes, etc.) were examined in the present project to build varieties are developed. The promising accessions are mainly from the perspective of seed strength, ie Vermehrbarkeit and reconstruction opportunities, especially for smaller growers (keyword sustainability) as well as further qualitative characteristics that are crucial for the evolution of seeds tested, and then select: Ingredients such as vitamins and other secondary metabolites, which are reflected in different color of the root body, sensory properties and resistance to fungal diseases (Alternaria dauci, A. radicina, Botrytis cinerea), lap strength, morphological homogeneity, income and shelf life (refrigerated storage for 4 months). The most promising provenances are tested in the second period in the year, growing practice. As a result, will ultimately create a better quality and quantity of products for all carrot producers in an economically important crop.
