Evaluation of endpoints in addition to MTT for predicting skin irritation potential of chemical substances with in vitro human reconstructed skin models.
Description:
Phase 1 of the ECVAM validation study (Project No. 1342-426) has shown that the in vitro tests can successfully discriminate clear-cut irritating chemicals from those chemicals which do not irritate the skin. However, recent new international regulations require a third class of skin irritancy to be predicted: mild irritants. The current project aimes in identifying promising toxicological endpoints for the prediction of mild irritating chemicals.
