Optimising of potato production in Organic Farming: Control of wireworms
Description:
Wireworms, the larvae of click beetles, cause in a lot of agronomic and horticultural cultures serious damages. An effective regulation of this pest in organic farming systems is not available. Aim of this project is quality assurance organically grown potatoes by a reduction of wireworm damages. For this pheromone traps are used on farms in different regions catching the adult click beetles for reducing the population of wireworms. Additionally different strategies of soil cultivation were tested for a reduction of wireworms in the soil. Strategies for the farmers should be derived from the project results.
