Conception, Coordination, Implementation and Evaluation of the Soil Condition Inventory in forests (BZE II)
Description:
Within the scope of the second soil survey in German forests, efficient and cost-effective approaches should be developed in order to meet following requirements: · the actual chemical conditions of forest soils and its changes since the first inventory should be described. · within the scope of the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change as well as the reporting commitment according the kyoto and marrakesh protocol special information to Carbon storage in german forest soils (incl. organic layers as well as fine roots) and error margins should be given. · estimation of the water budget situation in german forests in order to characterise risks of drought in forest stands as well as risks of element leaching, e.g. nitrate. · deduce information as a decision support to achieve legal tasks and international obligations and give management recommendation to policy, economy and administration. At the 10./11.04.2003 the forest chief conference decided a repetition of the BZE in the period 2006 to 2008. The institute of forest ecology and forest assessment will be considerably involved in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the inventory. Questions of the spatial and temporal variability of soil characteristics, the representativity and grid density as well as the completeness and significance of the parameters will be evaluated. As a result a mapping and laboratory analysis manual, a data base as well as an evaluation concept for the second soil inventory will be developed.
