Boosting feed intake in fish nutrition of plant protein diets by feed additiva based on Blue Mussel (Mytilus edulis)
Description:
To ensure high-growth in fish nutrition in aquaculture plant derived rotein concentrates and isolates are increasingly used as fish meal substitute, which is the limiting source in aqua feed production. By purification of plant protein it can substitute of up to 75% of fish meal based protein without growth redardation However, feed intake of fish is often reduced at higher plant protein contents with decreasing growth performances. Studies on feeding behavior of fish showed that, especially free amino acids like alanine and glycine and Betaine and inosine can act as stimulants, but far greater acceptance can be achieved if feed is added with extracts from natural organism. Presented project will evaluate differently prepared extracts of Blue Mussels (Mytilus edulis) to increase feed intake of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchusbe mykiss) and turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) fed with diets rich in plant protein content. These procedures should develope commercial utilization of feed additives in fish nutrition.
