Genetic dissection of arbuscular mycorrhiza development

Description:

This project aims at a molecular understanding of the development and function of arbuscules, which form the interface of the ubiquitous arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) symbiosis, and are of central relevance for symbiotic nutrient supply. We propose map-based cloning of RED and DIS, two loci required for arbuscule development in Lotus japonicus and the subsequent functional characterization of the encoded proteins. In the long-term, using complementary genetic screens, we aim to generate a comprehensive view of arbuscule development and function, which will be fundamental to the optimization of symbiotic plant nutrition in agriculture.
