Breeding oats for organic farming
Description:
'In organic growing of oats, there has been lacking any highly effective combat capabilities against seed-borne pathogens, so the disease resistance of new relevance and attractiveness of experiences. According to still ongoing investigations into about 85 percent of new and old oat spelled varieties sufficient resistance to the oat smut. For the project 02OE030 ('' Investigation of European oat varieties for resistance to oat smut '') found sources of resistance is now to be examined whether they are different resistance genes, which can then be targeted in the interest of sustainable resistance combined by crossing each other. in order to clarify this question Virulence gene studies and the review of the independence provided the resistance genes, for which, in turn defined races of Ustilago must be obtained avenae. Since the required level of resistance is not defined so far can not practically relevant classification shall be made in resistance groups. this purpose and for review of resistance of old varieties are investigations necessary Set goals to be achieved thereby.:
