Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL)
Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research centre focused on cellular medicine aimed at improving health care. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to conduct clinical and basic research of high level. The more than 800 researchers that work at IDIBELL represent the main asset of the institution. The activity of the Institute is based on knowledge management, with the ultimate goal of developing treatments and techniques that improve the lives of citizens. In addition to the talent and ability of its professionals, IDIBELL has first class technology to conduct high quality research. The Institute has an office for transfer of research results, recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The office is responsible for managing the research projects of researchers and facilitates the translation of research results to clinical practice. IDIBELL activity also includes researchers from 55 primary health care centres of Costa de Ponent region, in southern Barcelona. Overall, IDIBELL have access to a population of about 2,000,000 people, which allows for diseases' records, even relatively rare ones, which feed the activity of research and improve treatments.
