Under the Joint Task for the Improvement of Agricultural Structures and Coastal Protection (GAK), the federal and state governments are promoting investments in the transition of tree species (forest conversion) and the reforestation of damaged areas. However, this is not the end of the journey towards climate-resilient forests that can provide their ecosystem services in the long term. That is why the federal government is now also supporting additional efforts to increase climate protection and biodiversity services in existing forests. The aim is to maintain and develop resilient, adaptable and productive forests over and beyond the “initial spark” of tree species change.
