Development of dormancy induction in micropropagated broad leaf trees for long time storage in vitro
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-THÜ-2019-PGFo
Contract period: 01.01.2019
- 31.12.2021
Budget: 226,062 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: plant production and horticulture, forestry
Rooted as well as unrooted shoot cultures in vitro kept on sterile culture media can be stored at low temperatures over month. But micropropagated cuttings of broad leaf trees rooted in sterile miniplugs directly cannot do this without vitality loss. On the other hand dormant plantlets of broad leaf trees (winter dormancy) are often stored at low temperatures as they do this in winter time. The main goal of this project will be induction of dormancy of plantlets grown in miniplugs under sterile conditions. Storage of these dormant plantlets will give a continuous production chain independent from the growing season.
