Project code: 2809OE053
Contract period: 01.08.2010 - 31.12.2013
Budget: 269,279 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Extracts from wild vine respectively highly resistant hybrids: It has been investigated if leaf extracts produced from nonVitis-vinifera species and applicated on quality vine species are able to suppress or control Plasmopara viticola and other pathogens or if plant´s own defence mechanism can be activated by elicitors from these extracts. The potential for reducing copper applications of new and fungi-resistant cultivars of Vitis vinifera : The cultivation of fungi-resistant species can reduce the intensity of plant protection to a large extent and is ecologically and economically the most sustainable form of viticulture. The potential of copper savings due to fungi-resistant cultivars is probably depending on the resistance of the cultivar itself as well as on regional climatic conditions. In this study the specific level of plant protection will be investigated for the first time. An experimental plot with a specific overhead irrigation system was established in 2009. Here, first experiments simulating different levels of infection pressure have been conducted based on a limited number of vine plants showing pyramidized resistance against Plasmopara.
