Food and consumer protection

Project code: BfR-LMS-02-1342-406
Contract period: 01.12.2001 - 31.12.2004
Budget: 1,395,014 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The project aims to develop molecular biological based methods for the identification of animal or plant species with regard to unexpected food ingredients that could cause allergenic reaction as well as fraudulent replacement of food components. These methods will enable food producer as well as food control authorities to check the composition and the correct labelling of products with the aim to monitor product safety. The methods are suitable for application to raw as well as highly processed food products during the whole production chain for tracking and tracing purposes. In the frame of European harmonisation it is intended to promote these methods as standard control methods.
