Land management systems, ecosystem services and biodiversity - Development of management tools using the example of the cultivation of renewable raw materials (LÖBESTEIN)

Collaborative Project

Project code: 033L028A - 033L028E
Contract period: 01.07.2010 - 31.10.2013
Coordinating institution: Leibniz Institute of Ecological and Regional Development

The LÖBESTEIN project enhances the sustainable provision of ecosystem services for human well-being under the premises of an increased cultivation of energy crops. The goal of our research is to improve the consideration of ecosystem goods and services in decision making aiming by combination of climate protection activities with protecting biodiversity and stability of ecosystems. Within our work the concept of ecosystem services is used. Including economic, ecological and social aspects, ecosystem services can be a stimulus and a suitable tool to find appropriate solutions to identify or to improve regulatory measures like planning tools, legislative regulations or economic instruments (incentives) to channel energy crop production.
