Description
The basis of horticultural production is the propagation of outstanding plants in large quantities. The research tasks of the department focus in the field of all the propagation techniques of herbaceons species that do have an economic value at present: seed production and production of cuttings in-vitro-techniques. Ongoing automation of production implies very homogeneous internal and external quality of the propagation material. Since production of seeds, cuttings and in-vitro-plants take place worldwide international quality standards are necessary. In accordance with this request highly efficient propagation systems are under development. These include aspects of plant nutrition and plant health. In the year 1996 investigations focussing on the quality of cuttings of ornamentals were started as the first research project that crosses borders between departments.
