Set-up of a solar cooling and drying system for fish - subproject 1 (SolCoolDry)
Project
Project code: 2816PROC15
Contract period: 01.09.2018
- 31.08.2021
Budget: 845,006 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: global food security
This intervention will introduce a 100% off-grid solar powered cooling and drying technology package to improve quality and value of milkfish and Kimarawali. The package will include thermal storage like phase-change materials as well as aspects of advanced PV, minimized electrical storage and waste heat utilization. The project is divided into 9 work packages. In addition to project management, these include first an analysis of the situation on site in Kenya, then the simulation-based system design, then the construction of a first test system at the project partner in Kenya, test operation including monitoring and system evaluation, the derivation and implementation of optimization measures as well as the implementation of a second system and the implementation of the first system at the respective final locations. Together with the Kenyan partners, local training and public relations work is also supported. The project results are presented by all partners at appropriate conferences or other platforms.
