BonaRes (Modul B, Phase 2): BonaRes - Center for Soil Science - subproject A (BonaRes)

Project

Project code: 031B0511A
Contract period: 01.09.2018 - 31.08.2021
Budget: 3,291,662 Euro
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination

The crucial motivation of the BonaRes Centre is the transfer of existing and newly generated knowledge on soil functions into an operational scientific evidence base for decision-making on soil management in the context of a sustainable bioeconomy. Main tasks are the establishment of required infrastructure for an efficient communication and the exchange of soil related data, modelling concepts and assessment tools for a sustainable soil management, as well as public relation activities according to the funding initiative. The Centre supports and integrates all collaborative projects and reaches out to a wider soil-scientific community, farmers, administrative and political decision makers as well as an interested public. The future vision is that decisions on soil management options can be based on improved and operational scientific evidence. This will lead to an improved maintenance of the fertility of soils and their diverse functions and services for a sustainable utilization in the context of the bioeconomy. The BonaRes Centre has various coordinating tasks within the BonaRes funding programme. These are on the one hand public relations work aiming at supporting the safety of soils as essential resource for bioeconomy. On the other hand, the BonaRes Centre takes care of the internal coordination within the funding programme. Public relation work of the BonaRes Centre includes several activities such as the provision of content for the BonaRes Portal, the preparation of information material and the presentation of the funding programme’s activities to media, on scientific conferences, fairs and other public events. Internal coordination tasks of the BonaRes Centre are the communication with the BonaRes collaborative projects, the funding of a scientific steering group, the support of a scientific Advisory Board, the organisation of workshops and cooperative publications, as well as national and international networking with other research institutes and organizations. Moreover, the BonaRes Centre looks after the drafting of a shared research agenda for future activities within the BonaRes funding programme.
