Project code: 2811OE135
Contract period: 15.12.2012
- 31.07.2015
Budget: 139,998 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
The study aims to investigate advisory work for organic-farmers for the first time for the entire republic and from farmer’s perspective. Client use of advisory services as well as client satisfaction with the services will be assessed and it is intended to find out to which extend advisory work supports farms to work competitively. The study findings will help to improve the standard of advisory work and the training of advisors.
The R&D study will be supported by a consultative board of organic-farmers and by the Foundation for Ecology and Agriculture (SÖL) with its associate board of advisors. It is this body that takes responsibility for the spreading of study-results into the practice of advisory work.
The research-design is focused on a sample of 600 organic-producers. Criteria for the quota-selection are: clients of different types of advisory service, 'member resp. non-member of organic-farmers associations' and 'federal state'. The first step of data-interpretation aims to identify influencing factors of client use and types of users are going to be described. The second step will evaluate user’s satisfaction with realized advisory interactions as well as their assessment of farm performance improvement as an effect of advisory work. The findings of this study will be discussed and elaborated with the service organizations. The aim is to finally come up with improvements for advisory work that are relevant for the practice and that help to cover user’s needs, which were so far not taken into account.
