The project is organized into four work tasks which will focus on: analyzing the effects of agricultural management practices on soil characteristics and other ecosystem features with regard to climatic conditions development and implementation of adapted land use practices and steppe restoration measures, analyzing the effects of natural and social framework on land use decisions development and implementation of a stakeholder-driven planning and consulting platform which allows the application of sustainable land use strategies. The effects of different farming practices and steppe restoration measures on the soil characteristics will be analyzed at three different research sites. The results will be incorporated in adjusted farming practices. In close cooperation with Russian researchers the adjusted practices will be demonstrated to the local stakeholders at the research sites, which will result in a better acceptance of the new strategies by the general public. In addition, the opportunities for enhancing carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration will be investigated and implemented.
