ZooMap - Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis

Collaborative Project

Contract period: 01.06.2007 - 30.05.2013
Coordinating institution: Institute for Microbiology

Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP), the causative agent of paratuberculosis, is discussed in the context with Crohn´s disease in humans. However the final impact of MAP for Crohn`s disease is still unknown. The network 'ZooMAP' consists of eight groups of different research fields (immunology, human- & veterinary medicine). The projects will focus on the appearance of MAP in milk and the improvement of methods for its detection, on the contribution of MAP to chronic intestinal disorders and their consequences in humans, and on the improvement of MAP typing. The results from these studies will increase the understanding of MAP associated with Crohn`s disease and will contribute to the evaluation of a zoonotic relevance of MAP.
