Description

The Institute of Infectology (IMED / site Insel Riems) performs application-oriented research in the field of etiology and pathogenesis of viral and bacterial dieseases of animals and is involved in the elaboration and development of control strategies and immunoprophylactical measures. The major task of the institute ist the elucidation of agent-host-interactions during the course of infection and disease. Scientific disciplines such as virology, pathology, electron microscopy, molecular biology, bacteriology and immunology form the basis and contribute equally to this research. The scientific work concentrates on Classical Swine Fever in wild boar and domestic pigs, on Newcastle Disease and Fowl Plague, on infectious diseases of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract, and on virus diseases of fish considering in particular multifactorial disease complexes.
