The aim of the research network on horticulture is to promote and long term securing the horticulture sector through pooling of scientific expertise. With the help of new varieties, the development and establishment of sustainable crop protection practices, the study of causes of product defects and new quality control procedures work is done to improve the safety of fruits, vegetables and ornamentals. Furthermore, production safety issues through controlled studies on vegetable production in the field and the energy-oriented ornamental production in greenhouses will be answered. The thematic focus of the network-wide joint research project is the product and production safety of high-intensity crop production. The focus of the research projects is on horticultural products: apple (fruit), carbon (vegetable), roses and rhododendrons (ornamental plants and shrubs).
