Project code: BFH-II-02-32
Contract period: 01.11.2005 - 31.05.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research

The aim of the project is the implementation of the concept on genetic monitoring of tree populations in Germany developed by the Federal-State- Working Group 'Forest Genetic Resources and Forest Seed Law'. The pilot study is dealing with selected stands of Fagus sylvatica and Prunus avium. The aim is to test and further develop strategies for a large scale genetic monitoring program of trees in Germany. The results of the genetic monitoring are expected to provide important information for forest management and natural conservation programs. The genetic monitoring adds a missing component to the national reporting duties in frame of the “Convention on Biological Diversity”.
