The objective of the 'GABI-innovativ' research priorities is to advance competitive new biotechnological methods and products that
• enable an increase and stabilization of crop yields considerably above the progress made with conventional breeding,
• contribute to the production and selection of quality characteristics that considerably improve the exploitation of crop plants for food products, for energy production and for the synthesis of high-quality substances,
• facilitate sustainable cultivation of crop plants even if the availability of resources such as water or nutrients is reduced or limited, and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity.
