Abatement of fire blight pathogen in orchards without antibiotics

Collaborative Project

Contract period: 01.01.2003 - 31.12.2012
Coordinating institution: Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit Crops and Viticulture - Fruit Cops

The goal of the project 'Fight against the fire blight pathogen in orchards without antibiotics' is to be sought by intensifying the search for new ways to fight the fire blight pathogen sustainable replacement of the antibiotic streptomycin, and a strong and successful fire fighting fires. In addition to the long term in Germany are a unified forecasting methods are available to be used for operations against the fire blight pathogen in orchards nationwide. Therefore - based on previous results of the fire blight research - so far unresolved issues handled in concentrated form in individual projects. The aim of this joint project 06HS032, together with 06HS037 within the community, is the creation of an improved program for the prediction of flowering and shoot infections by fireblight, which can serve both consultants and growers, and the various control methods and means of the integrated and organic farming and scattered fruit trees and suitable for different susceptible varieties. The number of injections and the expelled amount of pesticides should be reduced and thus the use of biological specimens are more predictable. Another goal is the development of knowledge for a better understanding of the pathogenesis and epidemiology of E. amylovora. The collected evidence regarding the effects of various factors such as endo-and epiphytic colonization of host and non-host plants by E. amylovora which, together with an improved correlation with detailed weather information directly to the creation of improved forecasting program for predicting blossom and shoot infections the fire blight incorporated. In the course of these studies also, the influence of vectors and plant protection measures on the spread of the bacteria followed the course and the emphasis will be placed on looking at the early detection of pathogens.
