Project code: EIP-Agri-HE-2024-BDN
Contract period: 01.01.2024 - 31.12.2026
Budget: 581,935 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: biodiversity and nature, farm diversification

Structural change is accompanied by a decoupling of agriculture and landscape conservation as well as an intensification of land management. This is one of the main factors behind the decline in biodiversity. Native grassland habitats are increasingly affected by the decline in biodiversity. In addition, the sowing of seeds of herbaceous plants in the wild is now only permitted within their native habitats in accordance with Section 40 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act, which means that there is a great need for local seeds. The project has set itself the task of testing in the district of Marburg-Biedenkopf whether and under what conditions it is possible to integrate the production of local seed by means of meadow threshing as a branch of industry in regional farms. The production of native seed by local farms can both strengthen biodiversity in grassland and contribute to the diversification of farms.
