The ecological quality of grassland has deteriorated massively in recent decades, largely due to intensification of use. There has been an increase in oscillating mowing technology in the maintenance of nature conservation areas and green infrastructure. Due to changes in the demands on agriculture and for economic reasons, oscillating mowing technology could also become significantly more important again in agricultural production as a more climate-friendly option. The project aims to carry out comprehensive trials in the greater North and Central Hesse region to examine the entire spectrum of effects of rotary and oscillating mowing techniques on economic and ecological aspects and to demonstrate the potential for climate adaptation through the choice of mowing technique. The influence of the mowing technique on plant species composition and yield, soil samples and other studies on abiotic and biotic soil properties, water retention and CO2 balance as well as overall economic analyses of both mowing techniques at farm level will be carried out.
