The German Climate Act provides for a 65% reduction of Greenhouse gases until 2030 compared with the year 1990. Viticulturists have a strong interest in knowing the climate impact of their supply chains. Data collection and evaluation of the Corporate Carbon Footprint constitutes a methodological challenge for the companies. Practicable Instruments that allow evaluation and quantification of company's behaviour on the basis of standardized principles are missing. The project will develop a carbon calculator, which allows evaluating the climate impact of value chains in viticulture. This includes the reduction potential of CO2 and the potential of carbon removals. The calculator will thus contribute to cover the need for reliable and comparable carbon information in viticulture. An additional carbon compass shows companies how to reduce greenhouse gases efficiently in viticulture processes.
