Project code: EIP-Agri-BW-2025
Contract period: 01.01.2025 - 31.12.2027
Budget: 889,432 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: arable crop, crop rotation/crop diversification/dual-purpose or mixed cropping, digitalisation, incl. data and data technologies

Project HanfWert BW develops a practical AI System that detects hemp retting degree from photos and recommends the optimal harvest time. It is based on field trials with 15 varieties over three years at three sites (Heidfeldhof, Oberer Lindenhof, Eckartsweier) with two harvest dates and three retting stages, plus weather, Vegetation, and image data. University of Hohenheim builds the model and turns it into an app/web app; variety-specific differences are included. DITF Denkendorf standardizes sample prep and analyzes yield, fineness, homogeneity, bündle tensile strength, and performance in composite test bodies; results are linked with Images in a central database and compared with existing classifications. The Baden-Württemberg Farmers? Association leads outreach via field days, workshops, fairs, and trade/social media. Three farms support the project from the start, provide data, and test prototypes. Their feedback validates the AI, improves UX and recommendations, and supports Integration into advisory and value chains. In parallel, a robust dataset for cultivar choice and breeding strategies is created.
