In potato cultivation, the timing of tuber initiation and early potato development is particularly important. If unfavorable conditions occur during this phase, fewer tubers are formed and existing tubers are reduced in size. One way to reduce stress on the potato plant during this important development phase is to provide sufficient nutrients. In KAstab, biostimulants are to be administered both specifically via the leaves and directly to the roots. To this end, the stimulants are incorporated directly into the soil during planting. In order for the nutrients to be available to the plant at the time of tuber formation, they must remain stable in the soil for 5 to 7 weeks. To solve this problem, the OG is relying on biochar. This is to act as a carrier for the stimulant and ensure a slow release of nutrients. The aim is to strengthen the resilience of potato plants to long periods of drought through the development and use of biostimulants, thereby ensuring the economic viability of potato cultivation.
