Sustainable management and measures to improve operational sustainability are key aspects of the transformation of horticulture. In addition, stakeholders such as banks, the state and retailers are increasingly demanding sustainability certifications. In order to enable horticultural companies to operate in an increasingly sustainable manner, the assessment of what is actually meant by sustainability must be defined independently and transparently for the individual sectors of horticulture. However, sustainability assessment systems that meet these high requirements are not yet available for horticulture or are not very widespread. This gap is to be filled with the decision support project in a modular approach, which takes into account the special features of the various systems of horticultural value creation, for different specialist areas of horticulture.
