Progress with competence and special knowledge for animal welfare, Environmentally friendly and sustainable livestock farming - 'Animal Welfare Focus Network - Phase II'

Project

Project code: 28N419TA16
Contract period: 01.01.2024 - 31.12.2026
Budget: 361,678 Euro
Purpose of research: Public relations
Keywords: poultry, husbandry techniques, cattle, pigs, animal welfare, organic farming

The nationwide network Fokus Tierwohl aims to improve knowledge on the topic of animal welfare in agricultural practice. The transfer of knowledge includes the latest research results and results from innovation promotion as well as experiences from topic-related projects (e.g. model and demonstration projects (MuD) Animal Welfare, innovation promotion by the BMEL, ...), in order to derive answers for agricultural practice and to transfer knowledge to the public. The EU-wide call on the federal states to provide successful knowledge transfer and networking opportunities is thus being met. The expert knowledge on various animal welfare topics is bundled, the exchange of experience between practitioners, advisors, science and other groups is organised and thus knowledge networking is facilitated and promoted. During the current project period (until 31.12.2023), the agricultural advisory and educational institutions of all federal states have joined forces in a joint Animal Welfare Competence Centre (Tierwohlkompetenzzentrum, TWZ) as a network in order to process the results of numerous projects in the field of basic and applied research as well as practice in an animal species-specific manner and to make them available to the different target groups. The target groups consist of people who work on farms with cattle, pigs and poultry as well as people working in the upstream and downstream sectors.
