Variety-rich undersown mixtures in oat cultivation - Oat meadows
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-SH-2026
Contract period: 01.01.2026
- 31.12.2028
Budget: 494,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: soil, arable crops, agro-ecology, crop rotation/crop diversification/dual-purpose or mixed cropping
Haferwiesen is investigating how diverse undersown seed mixtures can have a positive effect on oat cultivation. Since oats influence the development of many plants through their root exudates, the project is researching which combinations of oats and undersown seeds are particularly well suited for stable, humus-forming, and biodiversity-promoting crops. The aim is to improve soil fertility, water storage capacity, and climate adaptation while developing practical cultivation recommendations for agricultural businesses.
