The EOSC-ARENA project is creating an independent Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, fully integrated with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), to address the critical need for AI-driven algorithms in research. A key objective is to bolster Europe's technological sovereignty and foster greater trust and transparency in AI. Central to the project is a cutting-edge, scalable multi-agent system powered by Generative AI (GenAI). These AI agents function as virtual research assistants that support the entire research lifecycle, from literature searches and forming hypotheses to analyzing data and reporting findings. Alongside the platform, a public marketplace will be launched to offer these agents and services. The platform will run on EU-based infrastructures, and its real-world applicability will be validated through twelve use cases across diverse scientific fields. To support this, the project fosters community exchange, builds expertise, and establishes guidelines for responsible, human-centric AI aligned with EU values. Key deliverables include the operational, EOSC-compatible platform and marketplace, open-source components, APIs, and robust data provenance mechanisms. This is complemented by policy recommendations and training resources designed to speed up the adoption of trustworthy AI. EOSC-ARENA thus makes a direct contribution to the EOSC's strategic agenda by advancing interoperability, the FAIR principles, and the sustainability of AI solutions.
