Amphibian behaviour in an intensively cultivated landscape in Germany: aspects of relevance for biodiversity preservation (AmphiMove II)
Project
Project code: JKI-GF-08-1213
Contract period: 01.01.2017
- 28.02.2019
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Amphibians such as common frog and common toad are important indicators for biodiversity of agricultural areas. However the populations decline and amphibians are the most threatened animal group in Germany and in the EU. We want to investigate reasons for the declining of amphibian populations in Germany. Use of agrochemicals (i.e. plant protection products and fertilizers) is considered to be a major factor. Other agricultural measures, habitat structure and weather have to be considered in face of the migration and habitat preference of the animals. We will study the behavior of amphibians using telemetry. Data are important for preservation of amphibians in agricultural areas.
