Investigation of the biodiversity in Malus and Prunus using molecular markers
Project
Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4138/6
Contract period: 01.12.2007
- 31.12.2012
Purpose of research: Basic research
The project is aimed at the evaluation of biodiversity in the Malus and Prunus cultivar collection of the Fruit Gene Bank Dresden-Pillnitz using molecular marker analyses. In cooperation with the working groups of Malus/ Pyrus and Prunus of the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR) SSR-markers, methods and reference genotypes recommended by these working groups will be applied. This approach is the basis that all data could be included in international databases. On the basis of molecular analyses, synonyms and genetic relationships between cultivars will be estimated and conclusions regarding the preservation work and the establishment of the future core-collection in Germany will be drawn. The Institute of Fruit Breeding realises this research based on international commitments in context with the maintenance of fruit genetic resources.
