Development of microbial agents for control of plant diseases and insect pests
Project
Project code: JKI-BI-08-1233
Contract period: 01.08.2016
- 31.07.2018
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination
Both Tunisian project partners as well as the German partner work on research and development of microbial agents (bacteria and fungi) for the control of plant insect pests and diseases. The goals of the proposed project are to support the exchange of expertise among the involved research teams, to develop new approaches by coordinating efforts, to establish new contacts in the partner countries and to address the issue of regulatory requirements for commercialization of microbial biocontrol products. To realize these goals, the following activities are planned: (1) Explore the potential, capabilities and technical facilities of the partners regarding research and development in biological plant protection. (2) Support academic exchange between partners with special regard to the next generation of scientists (master students/PhD students). (3) Exchange methods and results in ongoing research activities including exchange and testing of successful biocontrol agents. (4) Hold a workshop in Tunisia on the potential of microbial control with relevant stakeholders (science, industry, agricultural advisors, regulatory bodies, international organisations and donors). (5) Establish contacts between the Tunisian Scientists/Industry and German microbial manufactures and regulatory bodies. (6) Explore the feasibility of project ideas as a basis for joint projects with relevance to both partner countries.
