Project code: JKI-SG-08-2209
Contract period: 01.05.2014 - 30.04.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Russian dandelion, renewable resources, abiotic losses, weed control

In the last years Russian dandelion (Taraxacum koksaghyz) was discussed as a new crop to produce natural rubber, latex and inulin. With the projects TARULIN and TAKOWIND the JKI is involved in this development by drawing recommendations for a good agricultural practice for Russian dandelion (SB) and the establishing of a genetic map to support fast and targeted breeding (ZL). Russian dandelion is characterized by a slow development of the culture in the first 2 to 3 months and a long culture period of approximately 12 to 15 months. Therefore fast growing weeds can lead to partial or total yield losses by shadowing and displacing the crop. During the project RUBIN mechanical and chemical weed control strategies should be developed. In greenhouse and field trials the effectivity and compatibility of different herbicidal substances and substance groups in Russian dandelion culture will be evaluated. Key aspects will be the search for pre-emergence herbicides and the prevention of weed development during the winter. The collected data should provide the basis for the approval of herbicides for Russian dandelion culture.
