Enteropathogenic Yersinia is the third most common reason of bacterial enteritis in Germany. Yersiniosis is caused by Y. enterocolitica and Y. pseudotuberculosis. In this study the focus was on Y. pseudotuberculosis infections which are less frequent and underrepresented. Causes of variety of gastrointestinal diseases are not recognized. Furthermore the DIN/ISO10273 method, for the detection of pathogenic Y. enterocolitica in food and animal feeding stuffs containing no specific methodology for the cultural detection of Y. pseudotuberculosis. Consequently there is no established method for the cultural detection of Y. pseudotuberculosis.
