Project code: JKI-EP-08-2297
Contract period: 01.04.2015 - 31.03.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research

The ectoparasitic nematode Hemicycliophora conida was for the first time observed in Germany in 2014 as a pathogen of tomato in greenhouses. Infected tomato roots showed characteristic galls on the root tips, and the growth of the plants was reduced. Previously, the genus Hemicycliophora was only known as a pest on turf. So far, very little is known about the biology and damage potential of H. conidia agricultural crops. Therefore, as part of this research project, the host plant status is studied for various horticultural and field crops. Furthermore, the population dynamics of the nematode and its damage potential is determined on tomato. The studies will provide new knowledge on the biology of this nematode to allow control measures based on crop rotation in the future. The research outcome will be passed directly to the practice improving excisting production conditions in agriculture and horticulture.
