Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-0042
Contract period: 01.01.2009 - 31.12.2018
Purpose of research: Applied research

Sweet cherry rootstock clones should be evaluated und selected for the cherry growing. The main topics are dwarfing, precocity, good fruit set, graft compatibility, tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress. The rootstock clones will be tested with two sweet cherry cultivars. Beside the JKI institute in Dresden the clones will be evaluated at the LVA Gartenbau Erfurt and the Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen in Kassel.

The climatic changes and the developments in the cherry growing require new adapted rootstock cultivars. ln terms of the yield achievement and the yield stability of the cherry growing 15 clones from the rootstock breeding will be evaluated in this project and possible new cultivars will be selected fortheGerman fruit growing. The strong winter frost (-28°C) in January, 2009 caused a massive damage.
