Project code: 2816502714
Contract period: 15.09.2016 - 14.09.2019
Budget: 6,345 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

Checking the origin of grains, i.e., which type / variety, cultivation region or cultivation method, is important for guaranteed authentic food, which consumers increasingly appreciate. The AgrOr project consortium used an analytical ecosystem for this. A large number of samples were systematically examined with various analytical technologies such as NMR, IRMS, IR, RAMAN, LCMS in order to identify which aspect of the question of origin can best be addressed with which method or combination of methods. In addition, it was examined whether there are correlations with classic quality parameters in order to enable time and cost-saving multi-parameter tests. A total of over 12,000 data records were created and compared using innovative new software. It was shown that no method dominates in all cases, but combinations of methods improve the informative value of the origin of grain and can thus contribute to consumer safety in the future.
