Collaborative project: Data fusion in plant phenotyping using the example of Cercospora leaf blotch in sugar beet. Subproject 3 (DataPlant)

Project

Project code: 2815712115
Contract period: 04.05.2017 - 03.07.2020
Budget: 291,919 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Aim of the project DataPlant is the early detection of the leave disease Cercospora of sugar beets. A new mid-infrared hyperspectral imaging spectrometer was developed by the project partners TU Clausthal, KWS SAAT, MG Optical Solutions and InfraTec in order to detect an infection of sugar beet leaves by Cercospora. It is based on a Quantum Cascade Laser illuminating the plant at specific wavelengths and a radiometrically calibrated thermal camera for the signal detection. A plant phenotyping procedure measuring physiological traits was developed by FZ Jülich for measuring infected sugar beet plants in the field using a semi-automated positioning system. To analyze the data TU Dortmund developed a BigData approach as well as a fuzzy logic based inference system for the data fusion. Within the scope of Big Data weather and Cercospora model data delivered by BASF Digital Farming has been used.
