Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4136/2
Contract period: 01.08.2006 - 31.08.2009
Purpose of research: Basic research

One of the most dangerous diseases in strawberry cultivation is caused by the soil-borne pathogen Verticillium dahliae. Susceptibility to Verticillium-wilt occurs throughout the entire modern collection of strawberry cultivars. It is a demand in strawberry breeding to find resistance in the gene pool of the genus Fragaria for later use in breeding programmes. The goal of this project is the resistance evaluation of Asian Fragaria species to Verticillium dahliae. Taxonomical described accessions will be used under controlled conditions in a greenhouse inoculation test. The results are necessary for further breeding decision and investigations in the genetic background of this resistance.
