Knowledge brokerage, communication and dissemination in the field of integrated plant protection
Project
Project code: 2816HS010
Contract period: 01.04.2017
- 31.03.2018
Budget: 150,064 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to 1) increase knowledge exchange related to measures of integrated plant protection (IPP), 2) increase the adoption of the measures and 3) develop a communication concept for the interested public. The project results thus contribute to achieve some of the objectives of the National Action Plan on Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products (Nationaler Aktionsplan Pflanzenschutz) of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), namely the aims for better knowledge transfer, communication and public relations activities. Since 2012, the general principles of IPP are obligatory. However, their implementation is still insufficient. In a particapatory process in conjunction with key stakeholders of IPP the state of play in IPP will be analyzed and requirements in the field of knowledge transfer compiled. Thus user-friendly and demand driven knowledge transfer formats will be developed and integrated into an innovative communication strategy. agrathaer GmbH, the spin-off from the Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), is a consultancy enterprise for sustainable land use. agrathaer works closely together with ZALF scientists, transferring research results to policy, economy and society in a target group focused way. The results of the project will be implemented in the new pilot project 'integrated plant protection demonstration farms' of the BMEL. The work plan comprises of three work packages (WP). WP1 and WP2 build upon each other and WP3 runs parallel to WP1 and WP2. In WP1 the status quo of knowledge transfer in IPP as well as relevant stakeholders are identified, the requirements or needs of information on IPP are analyzed and innovative communication strategies to further disseminate IPP measures to relevant stakeholders are developed. The methods used include surveys and analyses. In WP2 participatory methods and measures for the implementation of IPP measures are developed by farmers and other relevant stakeholders in four stakeholder workshops. The aim is to: 1) develop appropriate participatory structures and methods of knowledge transfer and networking within and between stakeholder groups, and 2) develop further methods to motivate farmers to permanently apply and further develop IPP measures. In WP3 a concept for the successful communication of IPP to the interested public is developed. Therefore target groups are identified and methods of innovation design are applied.
