Bioeconomy International 2015: Thermophilic lactic acid production in continuous cultivation based on rice bran (BranLact)
Project
Project code: 031B0174
Contract period: 01.05.2016
- 30.04.2019
Budget: 367,155 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Rice bran is the by-product of rice industry, and available in huge amount in Asia. This project purposes production of lactic acid utilizing defatted rice bran as raw material. However, the rice bran contains about 15% cellulose, which is not hydrolyzed during saccharification and leads to high viscosity of the fermentation broth. The project aims to select a thermopphilic strain, for achieving high-temperaturecontinuous cultivation, scale-up, and downstream processing will also be developed to establish integrated and cost-effective process.
